Project to Connect Mahi Dam with Jawai Dam Moves Toward Implementation

Key Meeting Held Between CM Bhajanlal Sharma and Animal Husbandry Minister — Discussion on ₹7,000 Crore Project DPR

Jaipur, Aug 2025 : A major water project to connect Mahi Dam with Jawai Dam for the permanent resolution of drinking water issues in the districts of Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, and Barmer is now set to materialize. A crucial meeting regarding this project was held on Wednesday between Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Sumerpur MLA and Animal Husbandry Minister Joraram Kumawat.

The meeting focused on the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this ₹7,000 crore project. After the meeting, Minister Joraram Kumawat shared that CM Bhajanlal Sharma had previously announced in the 2024–25 state budget a plan to bring surplus monsoon water from the Mahi and Som rivers—filling dams like Jaisamand—and channeling it to Jawai Dam.

To bring this vision to the ground, detailed discussions were held with the Chief Minister. For the preparation of the DPR, an administrative and technical sanction of ₹15.60 crore has been issued by the Chief Engineer’s Office, Water Resources Department, Jaipur. Subsequently, the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Division, Salumber, has issued the work order to WAPCOS Limited. WAPCOS has submitted its inspection report to the Udaipur Water Resources Division, which has also approved the report.

Minister Kumawat added that once this ambitious ₹7,000 crore project is completed, it will permanently resolve drinking water problems in the districts of Udaipur, Sirohi, Pali, and Jodhpur. Additionally, the project will provide irrigation facilities to 16,000 hectares of land.
