Tourism Department and IRCTC Sign MoU
Aizawl, 7 Aug 2025 : The Tourism Department, Government of Mizoram, and the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a PSU under the Ministry of Railways, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote tourism in Mizoram.
The MoU was signed by Lalthakimi Pachuau, Joint Director, Tourism Department, and RN Ranmung, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC, Guwahati, for a period of two years. The agreement aims to significantly boost tourism in Mizoram by introducing initiatives to make travel easier for tourists, enhance access to various destinations, cater to travellers’ preferences, and increase the number of visitors to the state.
Beyond benefiting Mizoram’s tourism sector, this partnership is also expected to create meaningful opportunities for local residents and promote Mizoram to a wider global audience.
A key highlight of the agreement is the introduction of a rail service to Aizawl, scheduled to commence in September 2025. IRCTC announced plans to operate a Special Tourist Train in October 2025 to strengthen Mizoram’s connectivity with other parts of the country. The initiative will offer comprehensive tour packages to the state’s scenic destinations, making them more accessible to tourists. Additionally, outbound tour packages for travel outside Mizoram will also be introduced.
