Telangana to Power All Government Buildings with Solar Energy: Deputy CM Vikramarka

Hyderabad, Aug 2025 – Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has instructed officials to install solar power plants across all government buildings, from gram panchayat offices to state secretariats, as part of a large-scale push for renewable energy.

Chairing a video conference with district collectors on Saturday, Vikramarka said the Cabinet has adopted a policy decision to significantly expand solar power generation. Discussions focused on installing solar units on public buildings and implementing the Indira Saur Girijana Vikasam scheme on lands covered under the Recognition of Forest Rights (ROFR) Act.

He directed collectors to send layout plans of all district collectorates—including parking areas and canteens—to Hyderabad. Since most collectorates share similar architectural designs, he said, standardised solar plant models would improve efficiency. A questionnaire outlining technical and operational requirements will be sent to collectors, who must submit responses to the principal energy secretary’s office within a week.

The initiative will extend beyond government offices to schools, colleges, and higher educational institutions. Collectors were also tasked with identifying large vacant lands under the irrigation and roads and buildings departments for potential solar projects.

Explaining the state-wide plan, Vikramarka said the government aims to provide free solar-powered pumps to tribal farmers under the Indira Saur Girijana Vikasam scheme. Part of the Nallamala manifesto, the programme targets 6.7 lakh acres of land distributed to tribal communities under the ROFR Act during the Congress government’s tenure in undivided Andhra Pradesh.

The scheme has already been launched in Achampet constituency, with plans to expand to select parts of Adilabad district later this month. Vikramarka said these measures would not only meet energy needs sustainably but also directly benefit rural and tribal communities.
