Six-Month Extension for SEBC Students to Submit Caste Validity Certificates

Mumbai – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has decided to extend the deadline by six months from the date of application for students admitted to various educational institutions for engineering, medical, and other professional courses in the academic year 2024-25 to submit their caste validity certificates. This extension aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by students, particularly from the Maratha community, in obtaining the necessary certificates.

The Reservation Act for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) 2024 in Maharashtra was unanimously passed during a special session on February 20, 2024. This act grants a 10 percent reservation in admissions to educational institutions and in direct service recruitment posts in government and semi-government jobs, primarily benefiting the Maratha community.

Students benefiting from the SEBC Act have encountered challenges in securing caste validity certificates. As a result, there was a growing demand among SEBC students for an extension of the submission deadline. Addressing this concern positively, Chief Minister Shinde has decided to allow students an additional six months from the date of application to submit their caste validity certificates.

This decision will significantly ease the process for SEBC students, ensuring they can continue their education without undue stress related to certificate submission deadlines.
