Suman Tirkey from Bagicha Attends ‘At Home’ Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Raipur, Aug 2025 : Suman Tirkey, a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) from Bagicha, Chhattisgarh, had the rare honour of attending the ‘At Home’ reception held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on the evening of Independence Day, August 15, 2025.

Speaking about her experience, she said, “It was an unforgettable moment for me when I had the opportunity to meet Her Excellency President Droupadi Murmu. I will always cherish the memory of being able to speak with the Hon’ble President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During our conversation, I shared how government schemes have brought positive changes in my village and improved people’s lives. The President encouraged everyone present at the event.”

The grand reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Justice of India Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, diplomats, eminent personalities from various fields, beneficiaries of central government welfare schemes, differently-abled persons, and representatives from different walks of life.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, had invited nominations from across all states for participation in this prestigious programme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Out of all the nominations received, 10 beneficiaries from nine states were selected to attend the event. From Chhattisgarh, Mrs. Suman Tirkey was the only beneficiary chosen for this golden opportunity.

Suman Tirkey works as a mason. Her house under the PMAY (Urban) scheme was sanctioned in the financial year 2019–20. For the construction of her home, she received a total grant of ₹2.26 lakh as central and state assistance.

In addition to the PMAY (Urban), she has also benefited from other welfare schemes such as Mahtari Vandan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, and the Food Grain Scheme.
