Samsung Expands Manufacturing in India as Electronics Exports Surge 47% in Q1 FY26

New Delhi, Aug 2025 – South Korean technology giant Samsung is steadily expanding the manufacturing of advanced devices in India, including laptops, reinforcing the government’s flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Sunday.

India’s electronics production has seen a fourfold growth, rising from $31 billion in 2014-15 to $133 billion in 2024-25. Electronics exports have also registered a 47% surge in the first quarter of FY26 compared to the same period last year.

“Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation,” Vaishnaw said in a post on X. He added that the company’s research unit in India employs over 7,000 engineers, reflecting the growing role of domestic talent in global technology development.

Vaishnaw noted that government initiatives have turned India into a global hub for electronics. From just two mobile manufacturing units in 2014, the country today hosts over 300 factories, a transformation that underlines India’s drive toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance).

The growth momentum is also visible in the traditional PC market. According to IDC, India recorded a 7.1% year-on-year increase in shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations in Q1 FY26, reaching 3.39 million units.

Meanwhile, Samsung India reported record-breaking demand for its recently launched ‘Made in India’ Galaxy Z Fold7. The premium foldable device has gained strong traction not only in Tier 3 cities but also in Tier 4 markets and beyond, highlighting the rising aspirations of Indian consumers.

“The unprecedented demand has made us allocate stocks of the Galaxy Z Fold7 across deeper pockets of Bharat. We are encouraged by this new wave of demand from Tier 4 and beyond, and we will continue to serve these markets in the best possible manner,” said Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President and Head of Samsung India.

With stocks already sold out in select markets, Samsung is ramping up production at its Noida manufacturing facility to meet the growing consumer demand.
