Red Alert Issued for Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur Ghats for Next 24 Hours
High Wave Warning for Konkan Coast; State Emergency Operations Centre Issues Advisory
Mumbai, Aug 2025 : A red alert has been issued for the next 24 hours in Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts, as well as the ghat regions of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been declared in Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli. The State Emergency Operations Centre has directed district administrations to remain vigilant in view of possible disasters.
High Wave Warning Along Konkan Coast
According to the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, Thane, and Ratnagiri districts may witness high waves of 3.5 to 4.3 meters between 11:30 p.m. on August 18 and 8:30 a.m. on August 20, 2025. Similarly, Palghar, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts have been warned of 3.5 to 4.2 meter high waves from 8:30 a.m. on August 19 to 8:30 a.m. on August 20, 2025.
During this period, the sea is expected to remain rough with wind speeds of 50–60 km/h. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea. Authorities have also warned of coastal erosion and strong wave action hitting the shoreline. District administrations have been asked to stay alert.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall between August 17 and 21, alerting citizens to remain cautious. Due to the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall, district administrations have also been instructed to remain prepared for possible landslides, the State Emergency Operations Centre said.
In Ratnagiri district, the Jagbudi, Shastri, and Kodavli rivers have crossed the warning level, while in Raigad, the Kundalika river has also breached warning levels. District administrations have accordingly issued cautionary advisories.
One NDRF team has been deployed in Beed taluka’s Parli Kaudgaon for search and rescue operations, while a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team has been stationed at Mukhed-Halni village in Nanded district, where it is currently operational.
The State Emergency Operations Centre further informed that continuous coordination is being maintained with national agencies such as the IMD and NRSC to monitor weather forecasts. Updated alerts are being relayed to all districts. Additionally, through the SACHET platform, weather alerts are being communicated directly to citizens via SMS and notifications.
