Grand Showcase of Chhattisgarh at India Day Parade 2025
Chhattisgarhi Culture and Pride Displayed in Seattle, Toronto, and California Bay Area
Raipur, Aug 2025 :On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, Chhattisgarh made a magnificent presentation of its unique cultural, industrial, and tribal heritage at the India Day Parade 2025 held across North America. Under the leadership of NACHA (North America Chhattisgarh Association), diaspora families in Seattle (Washington), Toronto (Canada), and California Bay Area (USA) brought Chhattisgarhi traditions alive while celebrating the national pride of India.
In Seattle, the parade was led by Namita Khandelwal, President of NACHA’s Washington Chapter. The state’s industrial identity was highlighted with tableaux of the Bhilai Steel Plant and “Rice Bowl of India” agriculture theme. The vibrant Karma dance, exquisite Dhokra handicrafts, luxurious Kosa silk, and traditional delicacies such as rice papad and arsa delighted the audience. “From Bhilai Steel Plant to Karma dance and Kosa silk, presenting every facet of Chhattisgarh was a moment of pride,” said Namita Khandelwal.
In Toronto, the parade was organized by Pankaj Agarwal, President of NACHA’s Canada Chapter. The central theme was tribal traditions. Men donned dhoti, kurta, gamcha, and the Gaur crown, recreating Bastar’s tribal customs, while women wore lugda (traditional drape) and ornaments, offering a glimpse into Chhattisgarh’s culture. The presentation highlighted the rich heritage of over 30 tribal communities of Chhattisgarh and carried forward the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India) on a global stage.
In the California Bay Area, the event was led by Pooja Mahato, President of NACHA Bay Area. Diaspora families brought Chhattisgarhi traditions to life through songs, dances, and cultural performances. Women showcased traditional attire with lugda and jewelry. “It was a proud moment to present Chhattisgarh’s traditions along with families here in California. It shows that even thousands of miles away, our roots remain deep,” said Pooja Mahato.
The India Day Parade 2025 underlined NACHA’s global commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural, industrial, and familial heritage of Chhattisgarh on an international platform.
