Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha Directs Disaster Management Department to Stay Alert Amid Heavy Rains

Reviews Flood Situation at BMC Headquarters

Mumbai, Aug 2025 : For the past three days, continuous heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life across Mumbai. In this backdrop, Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha visited the Disaster Management Department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to review the situation. Considering the increasing intensity of rainfall, he directed the department to remain fully prepared.

Minister Lodha stated that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is closely monitoring the situation across the state. The CM is in constant touch with state disaster management officials and has already issued necessary directives to Mumbai’s disaster management team. Under his guidance, cabinet colleagues are working across different regions of Maharashtra to restore normalcy in public life.

Amid the ongoing heavy downpour, Minister Lodha reviewed the emergency management operations at the BMC headquarters today. He also held discussions with BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and obtained detailed information from department officials regarding the current condition in the city.

Highlighting problem areas, Lodha pointed out that certain low-lying regions in Mumbai and its suburbs tend to get waterlogged, disrupting traffic. He instructed authorities to deploy pumps immediately in such locations to ensure quick drainage and smooth movement of people and vehicles.

He further noted that in areas like Kurla, Ghatkopar, and Chembur, several settlements are located on hill slopes. Lodha instructed officials to maintain heightened vigilance in these areas and keep disaster management systems on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents.

Assuring citizens, Minister Lodha emphasized that the BMC’s machinery is actively functioning, and there is no need to panic. He appealed to Mumbaikars to remain cautious, follow official advisories, and cooperate with the administration to stay safe during this spell of heavy rains.
