BJP Govt Stealing People’s Rights, Says AAP; Launches ‘Report the Theft’ Campaign

  • Saurabh Bhardwaj launched the campaign; women filed complaints about theft of ₹2,500 allowance, free cylinders, medicines, and facilities.
  • “BJP first stole votes by distributing sarees and cash to win Delhi elections, and now it is stealing the rights of Delhiites,” said Bhardwaj.
  • “Modi’s promise of giving women ₹2,500 monthly and free gas cylinders has not been fulfilled,” he added.
  • “Women will take to the streets to register complaints against the BJP government for snatching away free medicines and facilities,” said AAP Women’s Wing leader Sarika Chaudhary.

New Delhi, Aug 2025 – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday launched a campaign called ‘Chori Ki Shikayat Dein’ (“Report the Theft”) against what it termed as the BJP government’s theft of Delhi residents’ rights. The campaign was inaugurated at the party headquarters by AAP Delhi convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj and the party’s Delhi Women’s Wing president, Sarika Chaudhary.

Women from across the city lodged complaints citing the loss of promised benefits including the ₹2,500 monthly allowance, free LPG cylinders, free medicines, and other facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhardwaj accused the BJP of first “stealing votes” in the Delhi Assembly elections through fake voter rolls, inducements like sarees and money, and now “stealing the rights of citizens.” He said that despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise, not a single woman has received the ₹2,500 allowance or free cylinders. “Gradually, all free facilities are being snatched away,” he said.

Bhardwaj alleged that BJP came to power in Delhi by cutting genuine votes, creating fake voters, and making false promises. He claimed that the party had promised women ₹1,100 monthly initially, later raising it to ₹2,500, as well as subsidized gas cylinders at ₹500. In addition, BJP allegedly lured voters by distributing sarees, cash, gold chains, shoes, and bedsheets.

“Women are distressed. They believe Modi must have sent the ₹2,500, but it was stolen along the way. Similarly, he had promised free cylinders during Holi and Diwali, but none were received. This is outright theft,” Bhardwaj said. He further alleged that even free medicines available at mohalla clinics and dispensaries have now disappeared.

The campaign, initially planned to be citywide, was scaled down after an incident earlier in the day when Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly slapped. The attacker was identified as a man from Rajkot, Gujarat, whose mother later claimed he was angry over dog-related orders issued in Delhi. Bhardwaj said the campaign will now expand across the capital in the coming days.

Sarika Chaudhary said women from different localities submitted written complaints, which she described as justified. “The BJP’s four-engine government had promised that in its very first Cabinet meeting it would approve ₹2,500 monthly for women. It’s been six months since the government was formed, yet no money has reached women’s accounts. The government has even digested the funds meant for women,” she alleged.

Chaudhary added that BJP had promised free gas cylinders but failed to deliver them even on Holi. “They have swallowed women’s free cylinders and free medicines too. Women, who mostly depend on government hospitals and mohalla clinics, are suffering the most,” she said.

She further alleged that BJP also committed “vote theft” by cutting 5,000–6,000 votes in each constituency, adding 10,000–12,000 fake ones, and even declaring living women dead or absent. “Women were shown as having left for UP or Bihar, while they continued to live in Delhi. Many women have also filed complaints of vote theft,” she said.

Chaudhary concluded that the BJP government has betrayed women, and from Thursday onwards, women would take to the streets to fight for their rights.
