Water Ritual at Koyna Dam Reservoir Conducted by Guardian Minister Shambhuraj Desai

Satara, Aug 2025 : Koyna Dam has reached 96.38% of its total water capacity. The water ritual at the reservoir of this dam was performed by Guardian Minister Shambhuraj Desai.

The water ritual event at Koyna Dam was attended by District Collector Santosh Patil, Chief Executive Officer Yashani Nagarajan, Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi, Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department Abhay Katkar, Sub-Divisional Officer Sopan Tompe, Tehsildar Anant Gurav, Executive Engineer Mahesh Rasanakar, among others.

Minister Desai performed the formal worship of the water at Koyna Dam, filling the pot. He stated that Koyna Dam is regarded as the lifeline of Maharashtra. Its contribution is invaluable to the thriving and prosperity of Maharashtra, especially in Western Maharashtra. While performing the water ritual in accordance with tradition and customs, he noted that the current water storage in the dam is 101 TMC and that discharge is ongoing at 99,000 cusecs. He expressed hope that with the Koyna Dam filled beyond 100 TMC, Koynamai’s blessings would extend throughout Maharashtra, leading to a flourishing and prosperous water-rich state with ample electricity generation and no water scarcity.

Minister Desai explained that although it is raining in the dam area, they are keeping a close watch on the overall situation. He mentioned that the administration has been instructed to take necessary actions in response to any flood conditions. Some families in the Koyna region and Patan had to be relocated. After the relocation, provisions for their shelter, meals, drinking water, and bedding have been arranged. He reassured citizens not to panic, stating that the administration is with them. Instructions have been given to the village heads, talathis, mandal officers, and village servants to stay in their respective villages. Minister Desai also mentioned that he would visit Patan, Karad, Satara, Wai, and Javali in Satara district to assess the flood situation.
