Bamboo Craft to Empower Kamar and Basod Families Economically

Skill Development through Training by Assam’s Bamboo Craft Experts

Raipur, Aug 2025 : To strengthen the economic condition of Kamar and Basod families by linking bamboo craft with sustainable livelihoods, the Forest Department is organizing a bamboo-based traditional craft and jewelry-making workshop-cum-training program at Barnawapara. The training is being conducted under the guidance of Divisional Forest Officer, Balodabazar, Ganveer Dhammsheel, with the expertise of bamboo artisans from Guwahati, Assam.

A total of 36 beneficiaries are being trained in two phases, including 6 participants from village Baldakchar, 14 from Thakurdia, and 16 from Barnawapara. The core aim of the program is to enhance livelihood opportunities for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) while preserving traditional values and skills.

Post-training, the bamboo ornaments and handicrafts created by beneficiary families are planned to be marketed not only within Chhattisgarh but also across different parts of the country.

This initiative is expected to play a significant role in developing skilled artisans, ensuring economic empowerment, and integrating PVTG communities into the mainstream of development.
