Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Backs Justice B Sudarshan Reddy Ahead of Vice-Presidential Polls

Chennai, Aug 2025 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday welcomed India Bloc’s vice-presidential candidate, Justice B Sudarshan Reddy, at a public event in Chennai, praising the former Supreme Court judge for his long-standing commitment to justice and humanity. Stalin asserted that Reddy, known for his integrity and dedication to the Constitution, would respect the sentiments of Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Vice-Presidential election on September 9.

Addressing the gathering, Stalin said, “Those who believe in democracy have accepted Justice Sudarshan Reddy as the vice-presidential candidate. Over the past 60 years, he has worked tirelessly to uphold justice, protect the Constitution, and act with honesty and integrity. Now, at a time when the BJP is attempting to undermine constitutional values, we need him to safeguard democracy. Justice Sudarshan Reddy will always respect the aspirations of Tamil Nadu.”

The Chief Minister also highlighted Reddy’s opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP), quoting the former judge: “It will not promote diversity.” Stalin criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah for calling the former Supreme Court judge a “Naxalite,” saying, “The Union Home Minister is targeting a respected jurist because they cannot curb terrorism. The BJP is undermining Tamil Nadu and seeking support under the guise of a Tamil identity. This is an old political tactic. Justice Sudarshan Reddy, who has consistently fought for justice and humanity, is the right person to protect our democracy today.”

Justice B Sudarshan Reddy, addressing the audience, described the vice-presidential election as a clash of ideologies rather than a personal contest. He emphasised that his disagreement is with the ideology of his rival, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan, and not with him personally.

The India Bloc officially announced Justice Sudarshan Reddy as its vice-presidential candidate earlier this month, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge making the announcement following a meeting in the national capital. Reddy will now campaign across several states, including Tamil Nadu, to secure support ahead of the September 9 election.

Stalin’s endorsement underlines the strategic importance of Tamil Nadu in the election and highlights the confidence placed in Justice Reddy’s credibility and commitment to democratic values, marking the beginning of a significant phase in his campaign.
