AAP Slams BJP Over Police Action on SSC Students at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan
New Delhi, Aug 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a scathing attack on the BJP government after Delhi Police allegedly carried out a brutal lathi-charge on protesting students at Ramlila Maidan. The students had been demanding corrective measures for irregularities in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations.

Sharing videos of the police action that went viral on social media, AAP leaders accused the BJP of running a “dictatorial regime” and using Delhi Police to crush dissent.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s National Convenor, said on X:
“See the dictatorship and hooliganism of BJP. These SSC students were fighting for justice for months. Instead of listening to them, the police brutally beat them under the cover of darkness. Just think—hands that should be holding books today bear injury marks. Even the media was stopped from covering the protest. Anyone who questions BJP is silenced through lathi-charge, arbitrary arrests, and sudden changes in law. BJP has made a mockery not just of democracy, but of the entire system.”
At a press conference, AAP Delhi Convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj said the protest had been peaceful, with students, young girls, boys, and teachers participating. “But the Delhi Police, under the BJP-led central government, cut off the lights at the protest site, attacked in the dark, and beat the children mercilessly. Students used their phone flashlights to record videos, which are now viral. This is shameful and an insult to democracy,” he said.
Bhardwaj added that while hardworking students were being left jobless, “those who paid bribes and had connections were becoming officers.” He accused the government of systemic corruption in SSC and NEET exams, saying, “Unqualified people are being made doctors, while deserving candidates are pushed out.”
Listing past incidents, Bhardwaj alleged that no section of society has been spared Delhi Police’s baton—traders protesting GST, doctors opposing laws, students, ex-servicemen demanding One Rank One Pension, lawyers on strike, journalists, and even BJP supporters at times. “Today it is SSC students; tomorrow it will be others. Everyone’s turn will come under this dictatorship,” he warned.
Senior leader Manish Sisodia, in charge of Punjab, wrote on X:
“At Ramlila Maidan, BJP’s ‘Lathi-leela’ unfolded. SSC students and teachers were mercilessly beaten and dragged. The Modi government is last in giving jobs, but number one in distributing lathis to youth.”
Leader of Opposition Atishi also condemned the police action, saying:
“Instead of listening to the questions of the youth, BJP had them dragged and beaten on the ground. This hooliganism shows that democracy has been replaced by BJP’s repression machinery. It is outright dictatorship.”
AAP leaders assured full support to the protesting students, pledging “all possible help” in their fight for justice.
