23 Lakh Saplings Planted in Urban Areas

Bhopal, Aug 2025 : To promote a cleaner environment in urban areas, the Urban Administration and Development Department has launched the Amrit Harit Maha Abhiyan this year. So far, 23 lakh saplings have been successfully planted across 10 divisions. Community plantation drives are continuing with active public participation. The plantation efforts have been carried out extensively in the urban areas of Jabalpur, Shahdol, Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, Indore, Sagar and Rewa divisions.

The responsibility for safeguarding the planted saplings has been entrusted to the “Women for Tree” Amrit Mitra Women’s Groups. Around 7,800 women in the state will ensure the protection of these saplings for the next two years. Urban bodies have provided these women with training and necessary kits. In some cities, these groups have also been given the responsibility of maintaining local parks.

The campaign was launched at a large scale on June 5, 2025, World Environment Day, with the support of urban bodies and will continue until September 30. Citizens, students, youth, elected representatives—especially women representatives—are actively participating in this initiative.

Plantation in Industrial Areas

Urban bodies are also organising large-scale plantation drives in industrial zones to help restore environmental balance. This is a commendable step toward creating a greener state and conserving urban ecosystems. Shade-giving and fruit-bearing trees have been prioritized for plantation.

Commissioner’s Appeal

Urban Administration and Development Commissioner Shri Sanket Bhondve has appealed to all urban representatives and citizens to make this plantation drive a public movement. He urged people to plant more trees in their localities and take full responsibility for their care, emphasising that this collective effort is essential for effective environmental conservation.
