Government Endeavors to Create a Cyber Crime-Free Environment – Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik
Mumbai : In today’s digital age, the widespread use of digital tools has led to an increase in online transactions, but many individuals are falling victim to cyber fraud due to a lack of information. To combat this, the government is working to create a cyber crime-free environment by enhancing cyber security across the state. The organization ‘What Now’ is actively promoting cyber awareness, and State Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik has affirmed the government’s continued support for such initiatives.
Chief Secretary Saunik inaugurated the Maharashtra Youth Cyber Security Initiative and the ‘What Now’ Helpline 9019115115 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan Auditorium. The event was attended by Brihanmumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, Maharashtra State Security Corporation Director General of Police B.K. Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Director General of the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations Brijesh Singh, ‘What Now’ founder Niti Goyal, and Nivedita Shreyansh.
Establishment of Cyber Security Center at Mahape
Acknowledging the adverse effects of cyber crimes and online harassment on the youth, Chief Secretary Saunik announced that Maharashtra is bolstering its cyber crime prevention and detection systems. A cyber security center is being established at Mahape. The ‘What Now’ organization has introduced helpline numbers to provide cyber security support. Additionally, the state police department offers a helpline number, 1930, for assistance with cyber crimes. Saunik urged victims of online fraud to report incidents without fear and to contact the police through this helpline.
She encouraged youth to raise cyber security awareness in schools, colleges, offices, and residential complexes. Chief Secretary Saunik expressed confidence that the ‘What Now’ movement, in collaboration with Maharashtra Cyber Cell, will strengthen cyber security efforts.
Mumbai Police Commitment to a Cyber Crime-Free City – Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar
Brihanmumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar emphasized that Mumbai Police is dedicated to combating cyber crime. Various initiatives for cyber security are being implemented by the police. Phansalkar advised youth to avoid responding to calls and friend requests from strangers on social media and to report any instances of cheating to their parents and the police. He also highlighted the importance of utilizing the police helpline number, 1930, for such cases. Phansalkar praised the ‘What Now’ campaign and assured that Mumbai Police is ready to cooperate.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Brijesh Singh noted that mobile phones, which now contain extensive financial transaction information, have become our identity. He warned that mobile hacking and information theft can lead to fraud. Singh mentioned that new laws have been implemented in the country, and police are being trained to handle these issues. He believes that the ‘What Now’ initiative will significantly contribute to cyber security literacy in society.

Maharashtra State Security Corporation Director General of Police B.K. Singh commended the ‘What Now’ organization’s initiative, emphasizing the necessity of public awareness for cyber security. Niti Goyal, founder of ‘What Now,’ and Nivedita Shreyansh, co-founder, discussed the organization’s activities, highlighting their focus on assisting youth in cases of online fraud. They emphasized that this movement, launched by the youth for the youth, aims to provide essential support. The event was well-attended by students.
