PM Modi meets Maldives President Muizzu on sidelines of SCO Summit in China
Tianjin, Aug 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a series of high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, underscoring India’s commitment to fostering closer regional cooperation and people-centric development.
During his meeting with Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s support for developmental initiatives in the island nation. He noted that India’s cooperation with the Maldives continues to deliver tangible benefits for the people of both countries. “Interacted with President Muizzu of Maldives on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin. India’s developmental cooperation with Maldives is greatly beneficial for our people,” PM Modi shared on X.
PM Modi also met Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and described the ties between India and Nepal as “deep-rooted and very special.” The two leaders discussed avenues to strengthen their long-standing cultural, economic, and political bonds. “Delighted to meet Nepal PM Mr. KP Oli in Tianjin. India’s relations with Nepal are deep-rooted and very special,” PM Modi posted.
In addition, the Prime Minister held talks with Myanmar’s State Security and Peace Commission Chairman, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. The discussion focused on reviewing bilateral ties and exploring ways to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in connectivity, security, and regional stability.
A key highlight of PM Modi’s engagements was his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders acknowledged the positive momentum in India-China relations since their last interaction in Kazan. They emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity in border areas and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties based on mutual respect, interest, and sensitivity. PM Modi described the meeting as “fruitful,” noting that both sides recognized the significance of stable relations for regional peace and global progress.
PM Modi also interacted with Cai Qi, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China. Their discussions touched upon bilateral economic cooperation, political dialogue, and people-to-people exchanges, reflecting the growing engagement between the two nations.
Arriving from Tokyo after completing his Japan visit, PM Modi landed in Tianjin on Saturday to attend the two-day SCO Summit. He was warmly welcomed at Binhai International Airport with a colourful reception, marking the start of an important round of diplomacy aimed at strengthening India’s role in the regional grouping.
