Strict Action by Administration Against Illegal Sand Mining
Raipur : Continuous action is being taken to curb illegal sand mining. Upon receiving information about large-scale excavation with several tractors in the river, a joint team reached the spot and found around 14 tractors being filled with sand, while over 100 laborers were actively engaged in mining. Considering environmental protection and law and order, strict punitive action is being enforced against those involved in illegal sand excavation.
In a major crackdown, a joint team of the Revenue and Police Departments acted against illegal sand mining in the Galfulla River near Deepadih Kala, Shankargarh block, Balrampur-Ramanujganj district. According to the Sub-Divisional Revenue Officer (Kusmi), upon receiving information about extensive sand excavation using multiple tractors, an immediate joint task force was formed. Naib Tehsildar Shankargarh and the local Police Station In-charge reached the site with their teams. Considering the seriousness of the situation, additional police forces were deployed under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police to prevent any untoward incidents.
On arrival, the team found about 14 tractors loaded with sand and over 100 workers engaged in illegal mining. The Police Station In-charge tactfully dispersed the laborers peacefully. Subsequently, in the presence of the Naib Tehsildar, all tractors were seized and taken to the Deepadih police outpost. Separate preventive action is being undertaken under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.
It is noteworthy that under the joint efforts of the Collector and Superintendent of Police, strict measures are being implemented against illegal sand mining and transportation. As per the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, sand mining from rivers is completely banned between June 15 and October 15, 2025. In this context, stringent punitive action will continue against violators to ensure environmental protection and maintain law and order.
