Rescue Operations Underway Amidst Heavy Rains: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
Heavy rains continue to impact Mumbai, Pune, and Raigad regions. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured that district and municipal administrations are fully prepared, with relevant officers and employees actively engaged in rescue operations where flood-like conditions are present. He urged citizens to remain calm and only leave their homes if absolutely necessary.
Chief Minister Shinde stated that all units of NDRF, SDRF, Army, Navy, Police, Fire Brigade, and Health Services have been directed to coordinate and assist as needed. Instructions have been given to ensure the safe evacuation of flood-affected individuals, provide food packets, and arrange for medicine and water. Assistance from the NDRF, Army, and Navy will be utilized as required.
He noted that Pune, Maval, and Mulshi have also experienced significant rainfall, affecting the region, while Mumbai city and suburbs are facing heavy rains. The administration is fully alert to handle any potential emergencies in Mumbai. The Chief Minister is in regular contact with officials in Pune, Raigad, and Mumbai, and has coordinated with the Army and Navy. Helicopters will be deployed if necessary to rescue people trapped in flood-affected areas.
In Mumbai, efforts are underway to drain water from areas such as Kurla and Ghatkopar using 255 pumps. The Central Western and Harbor Railway systems have been advised to remain prepared for the increasing rainfall. Schools and colleges in rain- and flood-prone areas have been closed. The Chief Minister appealed to citizens not to panic, assuring that both ministry and district-level administrations are closely monitoring the situation and working diligently on the ground.
