BRS Likely to Suspend MLC Kavitha Amid Kaleshwaram Row
Hyderabad, Sept 2025 : The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is reportedly considering suspending its MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha following internal deliberations over her recent statements and the ongoing Kaleshwaram controversy. According to party sources, senior leaders met at BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse in Erravalli to discuss the fallout of the Ghose Commission report, the subsequent CBI probe ordered by the state government, and Kavitha’s remarks targeting the party’s leadership.
The meeting, chaired by KCR, was attended by working presidents K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao, along with senior leaders S. Madhusudhan Chary, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, G. Jagadeesh Reddy, and Palla Rajeswara Reddy. Insiders said KCR expressed displeasure over Kavitha’s recent criticism, in which she held Harish Rao and J. Santosh responsible for the party’s current troubles.
This is not the first time Kavitha has openly differed with the party line. On May 23, she addressed a six-page letter to her father, cautioning that BRS’s “soft approach” towards the BJP had created confusion and speculation about a potential future alliance. Her remarks were seen as undermining the leadership’s political strategy.
Meanwhile, BRS leaders have rallied behind Harish Rao. KTR took to social media to praise Harish’s speech in the Assembly, describing him as a “six-foot tall bullet” and a “worthy disciple of KCR garu.” He added that the Congress would have learned valuable lessons on irrigation from Harish’s intervention.
The possible disciplinary action against Kavitha reflects the growing strain within the BRS at a time when the party is battling criticism over the Kaleshwaram project and facing political challenges from both the Congress and the BJP.
