MoU Signed for Ropeway Development at Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib under Parvatmala Project in Presence of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami

Sept 2025 : In the presence of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, an agreement was signed on Tuesday at the Secretariat between the State Government and National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) for the development of ropeways at Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib under the Parvatmala Project.

As per the agreement, equity participation will include 51 percent from NHLML and 49 percent from the State Government. Under revenue sharing, 90 percent of the funds will be spent within Uttarakhand on tourism, transport, and mobility-related projects.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Shri Ajay Tamta and Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj were also present during the signing ceremony.

Chief Minister Dhami said that this agreement will give global recognition to the state’s religious and cultural heritage, while also opening new opportunities in tourism, employment, environmental protection, and infrastructure development. He informed that under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, approval has been granted for the construction of a 12.9 km ropeway between Sonprayag and Kedarnath at a cost of about ₹4,100 crore, and a 12.4 km ropeway between Govindghat and Hemkund Sahib at a cost of over ₹2,700 crore.

The Chief Minister said these projects will not only establish new milestones in ropeway connectivity within the state but will also play a vital role in strengthening Uttarakhand’s economy. He highlighted that under PM Modi’s leadership, the state is witnessing rapid expansion of rail, road, and ropeway connectivity. Projects like the Char Dham All-Weather Road, Delhi-Dehradun Elevated Road, Sitarganj-Tanakpur Highway, Paonta Sahib-Dehradun Road, Banbasa-Kanchanpur Road, Bhaniyawala-Rishikesh stretch, Kathgodam-Lalkuan link, Haldwani Bypass, and other border road projects are enhancing connectivity across the state. Work on expanding rail connectivity is also progressing rapidly.

Union MoS Shri Ajay Tamta said this is a historic day for ropeway development in Uttarakhand. He added that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, rapid development is taking place across all sectors in the state. The ropeways will make pilgrimages to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib significantly more convenient for devotees.

Tourism Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj said this agreement will play an important role in boosting tourism in the state. He added that the ropeways will help improve local livelihoods and create new employment opportunities.

On this occasion, senior officials including Chief Secretary Shri R.K. Sudhanshu, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Shri Vinay Kumar, Secretaries Shri Dilip Jawalkar, Shri Dhiraj Gabryal, Shri Yugal Kishore Pant, NHLML CEO Shri Rajesh Malik, NHLML Vice President Ropeways Shri Prashant Jain, Additional Secretary Shri Abhishek Rohila, and officers from the Tourism Department were present.
