The Police Department Should Keep the System Ready for Disaster Management – Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Pune : Amid heavy rains in the district, Deputy Chief Minister and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar visited the CCTV command control room at Pune City Police Headquarters to gather information about flood-affected areas in the city. He directed the police department to keep the system ready for disaster management.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawar inspected and reviewed the affected areas through CCTV in the command control room and communication room. Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Praveen Patil, and other senior police officers were present during the visit.
Pawar emphasized the need for water management at Khadakwasla Dam, suggesting that water storage should be controlled, especially if it rains at night. He advised increasing the release of water from the dam during the day to facilitate relief and rescue operations. Efforts should be made to manage flood risks by controlling water storage and discharge in the dam. The hydropower project at Pavana Dam should continue, and the administration should ensure that citizens in flood-affected areas do not face difficulties. Residents of housing institutions should be relocated to safe places if necessary, with necessary facilities provided during relocation.
During his visit, Pawar reviewed the affected area in Charholi from the control room and sought information on disaster management from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shekhar Singh over the phone. He suggested deploying sufficient manpower for rescue and relief work. Additionally, Pawar gathered information about Ekta Nagar, Shivaji Bridge, Charholi, Chand Tara Chowk, and other locations through the CCTV system in the communication room. Police Commissioner Kumar assured that the police system is prepared for the heavy rains.
