World’s Widest Tunnel Record for Missing Link Project; Guinness Certificate Presented to CM Devendra Fadnavis
Pune, May 2026: The tunnel constructed under the Missing Link project on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, inaugurated on Maharashtra Day and opened for public use by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s widest underground tunnel.
Representatives of the Guinness World Records presented the official certificate recognizing this global achievement to Chief Minister Fadnavis.
On the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Public Works Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale, Employment Guarantee Scheme Minister Bharat Gogawale, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, Minister of State for Public Works Meghna Bordikar, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, Members of Parliament Shrirang Barne and Sunil Tatkare, MLAs Uma Khapre and Sunil Shelke, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Manisha Mhaiskar-Patankar, Additional Chief Secretary (Public Works) Milind Mhaiskar, MSRDC Chairman and Managing Director Anil Gaikwad, along with MSRDC officials and representatives of Navayuga Company involved in tunnel construction, were present.
During the event, Guinness World Records officially declared the tunnel’s width as 22.33 meters, making it the widest underground tunnel in the world. Prior to this, MSRDC officials and representatives of Navayuga briefed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries about the technical aspects of the tunnel construction.
