Coordination Meeting Held to Control and Prevent ‘Lumpy Skin Disease’ – Animal Husbandry Secretary Dr. Samit Sharma Directs Preparation of Disease Control Plan

Jaipur, Sept 2025 – A coordination meeting was held at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of Dr. Samit Sharma, Secretary, Animal Husbandry Department, to review preparations for the control and prevention of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and to ensure inter-departmental coordination with related agencies. The meeting was attended by Dr. Anand Sejra, Director, Animal Husbandry; Shri Prahlad Sahay Naga, Director, Gopalan; and officials from the Animal Husbandry, Dairy, and Gopalan departments, along with other stakeholders.

Dr. Sharma stressed the need for timely and systematic preparedness based on last year’s experiences, directing that a clear action plan be drawn up for prevention and control. He noted that sporadic cases of LSD have been reported in a few districts, and the department is carrying out surveys, diagnosis, and control measures in line with the Government of India’s guidelines. So far, nearly 13.9 million cattle across Rajasthan have been vaccinated using the Goat Pox vaccine.

Reviewing departmental preparations, Dr. Sharma instructed the Animal Husbandry Department to ensure proper disease surveys, sample collection, treatment, and guideline adherence through veterinary institutions and labs, while ensuring the availability of medicines at local centres. He also directed that daily reports of outbreak zones, infected, treated, and deceased cattle be submitted, and detailed records of affected livestock be maintained for epidemiological studies.

Dr. Sharma further emphasized safe scientific disposal of carcasses and directed Gopalan officials to enforce biosecurity measures in cowsheds, prevent grazing of infected cattle, and quarantine new arrivals for at least 14 days. The Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation (RCDF) was asked to ensure sanitisation, hygiene, and fogging at dairy households, and to prepare awareness materials for milk producers’ cooperatives.

Additionally, the Panchayati Raj and Urban Development Departments were directed to support vector control through insecticide spraying and fogging, assist in vaccination of stray cattle, and provide financial support for proper carcass disposal.
