Minister Pu K. Sapdanga Launches Meichher Golden Jubilee Special Edition 2025 on International Literacy Day
Aizawl, Sept 2025: The Adult Education Wing of the School Education Department, Directorate of School Education, Aizawl, organised a programme today to commemorate “International Literacy Day 2025” under the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.” The event highlighted the importance of literacy and its impact on society.
Hon’ble Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga graced the occasion as the chief guest and formally released the ULLAS booklet, the Meichher Digitization Project, and the Meichher Golden Jubilee 2025 Special Edition & Souvenir.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sapdanga expressed gratitude for celebrating International Literacy Day alongside the Golden Jubilee of Meichher, a landmark in literacy promotion. He commended all educators and literacy workers for their dedication and contributions toward spreading the culture of reading and writing.
He emphasised that the efforts of Meichher have inspired a mindset that values literacy as a foundation for social and economic advancement. “The commitment and perseverance of those engaged in teaching literacy have enabled many to transform their lives. Their achievements stand as true success stories, motivating others to follow,” he said.
Highlighting the digital transition, the Minister noted: “We are living in a digital era, and this year’s theme, Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era, is highly relevant. The release of digital publications today is a step in the right direction. With the growth of internet access, it has become easier to spread knowledge widely and quickly, making digital literacy an essential part of modern education.”
Pu K. Sapdanga encouraged all stakeholders to continue their tireless efforts for the progress of the state and its people, stressing that literacy is the cornerstone of development.
The programme also featured addresses by Pi Angela Zothanpuii, Director of School Education, and Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister of School Education, who read the International Literacy Day 2025 message. Other dignitaries, including Pu T.C. Lalremsiama (Assistant Director, Adult Education), Pu R. Lalrawna (Meichher volunteer and Padma Shri awardee), and several others, shared their reflections.
Pu R. Lallianzuala, Chairman of the Meichher Golden Jubilee Special Edition Sub-Committee, gave an introduction to the Souvenir. Success stories were also presented by Pi Helen Lalfakawmi, a beauty culture trainee under the Model Centre for Critical Life Skills and Occupational Skill Development Programme, and Pi V.L. Awmpuii, a successful learner under ULLAS.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Pi R. Lalnunthari, Joint Director of School Education (E).
