Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Participates in “Save the Himalayas Campaign 2025” Program
Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday participated in the “Save the Himalayas Campaign 2025” program organized by Hindustan newspaper at a hotel located on Mussoorie Road. On this occasion, he also honored those who have done commendable work in the field of Himalayan and environmental conservation.
The Chief Minister said that the Save the Himalayas Campaign was launched by Hindustan newspaper in 2012 to make every individual aware of the need to protect the Himalayas. Today, this campaign has become a people’s movement, inspiring citizens to actively contribute to the preservation of the Himalayas.
He emphasized that the Himalayas are the soul, culture, and natural heritage of our country. The life-giving rivers originating from the Himalayas not only provide drinking water to millions but also serve as a major source of energy. The rare plants and wildlife found in the Himalayan region are also a vital part of our environmental legacy.
The Chief Minister added that development must go hand in hand with maintaining ecological balance to conserve the Himalayas, and the state government is making consistent efforts in this direction. Climate change, he said, is emerging as a major global threat. To ensure ecological balance in Himalayan areas, the state government is working on forest conservation, water preservation, and promoting clean energy sources. Through plantation drives, water conservation campaigns, and environmental awareness programs, regular efforts are being made to safeguard the Himalayas.
Highlighting tourism as a key economic activity in the Himalayan region, the Chief Minister said that the state government is promoting sustainable tourism while also launching a digital deposit refund system for plastic waste management. This small initiative has already succeeded in reducing 72 tons of carbon emissions in the Himalayan region.
He stressed that more efforts are required to conserve the Himalayas. The knowledge, traditions, and lifestyle of people living in the Himalayan region teach us to live in harmony with nature. Their experiences and traditional wisdom should also be included in environmental conservation policies. Only when every individual becomes aware of their responsibility toward Himalayan conservation will we be able to preserve this invaluable heritage for future generations.
