Power Minister Pu F. Rodingliana Inspects Ongoing Power Infrastructure Projects in Mizoram
Aizawl, Sept 2025: Power & Electricity Department Minister Pu F. Rodingliana today visited the ongoing works under the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), specifically the 132/33kV Sub-Station at West Phaileng and the 132/33kV Sub-Station at Marpara. At both sites, the Minister inspected facilities already in place to ensure that the sub-stations can be commissioned smoothly.
At Phaileng Sub-Station, the Minister held discussions with engineers and Power Grid officials regarding the progress of various works. He emphasized that the completion of these sub-stations will significantly strengthen power supply in rural Mizoram, making it more reliable and accessible. He also highlighted the Government’s commitment to address the challenges that have delayed the projects.
The Minister explained that Mizoram would be able to utilize the 132kV Sub-Stations more efficiently once all works are completed, and that measures are being taken to overcome obstacles. Work on the 132/33kV Marpara Sub-Station and the 132/33kV West Phaileng Sub-Station initially began in September 2018, but progress was slowed due to issues related to land compensation and forest clearance. Recently, the State Government released ₹189.71 lakhs to the Forest Department for forest clearance, allowing the works to resume.
At present, construction of the sub-stations and transmission lines has been completed, with test charging at the 33kV level already done. Approval from the Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC) is awaited for First Time Charging (FTC) at the 132kV level.
At the West Phaileng Sub-Station, additional works such as side drains, RCC roads, and a Transit Camp have been completed, while the remaining works are expected to be finalized by September 2025. At the Marpara Sub-Station, construction of the switchyard access road, side drains, Transit Camp building, Security Hut, and gate installation are still underway, with full completion expected by March 2026.
The Minister was accompanied by Er. Laltlanthanga, Chief Engineer (Distribution); Er. C. Vanlalsawma, SE; Er. Jacob Lalrinnunga, EE, Mamit; Pu Samuel Lalhriatzuala, SDO, West Phaileng, and senior officials from Power Grid, including the General Manager.
