Prime Minister’s Matru Vandana Yojana: A Support to Motherhood

Raipur, Sept 2025 : Motherhood is the greatest joy in every woman’s life, but along with this joy come many responsibilities and challenges. During pregnancy, physical weakness, household pressures, and financial constraints often affect the health of both mother and child. To address these challenges, the Central Government launched the Prime Minister’s Matru Vandana Yojana, which today has become a strong support system and a blessing for expectant mothers across the state.

Beneficiary women from Mahasamund district — Mrs. Anshuni Sai, Mrs. Rekha Dewangan, Mrs. Rajkumari Nishad, and Mrs. Tabassum Khatoon — said that the scheme not only provided them with financial support but also gave them the courage and opportunity to take proper care of their health and that of their babies. With the scheme’s assistance, they were able to afford nutritious food, and today both mother and child are healthy. These women now share their experiences with other expectant mothers, motivating them to also avail the benefits of the scheme.

District Program Officer of the Women and Child Development Department, Mr. Tikvendra Jatwar, explained that the objective of the scheme is to ensure adequate rest and nutrition for pregnant mothers so that both mother and child remain healthy, thereby strengthening the coming generation.

Under this ambitious scheme, in the last three years alone, 19,036 pregnant women in Mahasamund district have received financial assistance amounting to ₹6 crore 32 lakh 84 thousand. As per the provisions, after registration, a mother receives ₹3,000 during the seventh month of pregnancy and ₹2,000 after three and a half months of delivery once the child is vaccinated. Additionally, in the case of a second delivery resulting in the birth of a girl child, mothers are given a special incentive of ₹6,000 — a gesture that upholds the dignity and security of daughters.

This scheme is not confined to financial assistance alone; it is also about honoring motherhood. The Prime Minister’s Matru Vandana Yojana has truly brought hope, nutrition, and security into the lives of mothers and has laid a strong foundation for a healthier and empowered society across the state.
