Sri Lanka Clinches Maiden Women’s Asia Cup Title, Defeats India.

Sri Lanka triumphed in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup final, defeating India by eight wickets to secure their maiden title after previously being runners-up five times. Kavisha Dilhari sealed the victory with a six off Pooja Vastrakar in the 19th over, sparking jubilant celebrations from the Sri Lankan team.

India, opting to bat first after winning the toss, posted a challenging total of 165 runs in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana led with 60 runs, providing a solid start. Despite some middle-order collapses, late contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh bolstered India’s score. Kavisha Dilhari was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, taking two wickets.

In their chase, Sri Lanka was propelled by fifties from Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama, setting a strong foundation for their pursuit of the target. After Athapaththu was dismissed by Deepti Sharma, Dilhari’s quickfire 30 off 16 balls, featuring a four and two sixes, guided Sri Lanka to victory with eight balls to spare.

This victory marked Sri Lanka’s first Asia Cup title, while India had to settle for the runner-up spot for the second time, despite having won the tournament a record number of times in previous editions.
