Chief Minister Attends The Closing Function Of The 12th North East Zone Shooting Championship
Aizawl, Sept 2025: The Mizoram Rifles Association organised the closing function of the 12th North East Zone Shooting Championship, 2025 at Thara Resorts, Falkland, Aizawl on Saturday (13th September, 2025). The programme was graced by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma as the Chief Guest.
In his address, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the organisers and participants. He highlighted that shooting is a sport that demands sharp physical and mental discipline, making it especially suitable for individuals with focus and precision. He also conveyed appreciation to the Mizoram Rifles Association for successfully hosting a prestigious inter-North East tournament.
The Chief Minister noted that Mizoram is actively implementing Vision 2036, aligning with India’s preparation for the 2036 Olympics, as already announced by Prime Minister Pu Narendra Modi. He expressed the aspiration that many talented Mizo youths would represent India on the global stage. To support this, the Government of Mizoram is implementing the Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) programme to identify and nurture talented children with proper training. Since shooting is an Olympic discipline, those with potential can receive support under EMS, underlining the Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for athletes.
Pu Lalthansanga, Organising Chairman and Minister for EF & CC, also addressed the gathering, thanking all stakeholders for their cooperation in successfully organising the event. The Chief Minister, too, expressed gratitude for being invited to the closing function.
Pu Kalukesh Narayan Singh Deo, President of the National Rifles Association of India, delivered a speech as a guest of honour.
Pu Peter Zohmangaiha, Competition Director and General Secretary of the Mizoram Rifles Association, presented the event report. He highlighted that this is the first time Mizoram has hosted the championship. A total of 257 shooters from six North Eastern states and Services participated, with Assam sending the largest contingent. Competitions were held in multiple categories across different venues in Aizawl.
In the final medal tally, Mizoram emerged team champion with 25 gold medals, while Meghalaya secured second place with 24 golds.
