“Swachhata Hi Seva-2025” Campaign Launched with Special Inspection Drive Across Uttar Pradesh

Sept 2025 : The Urban Development Department of Uttar Pradesh has rolled out an extensive action plan under the Swachh Bharat Mission for the “Swachhata Hi Seva-2025 – Swachhotsav” campaign, running from September 17 to 2 October 2025. The primary objective of this initiative is to strengthen cleanliness arrangements in urban local bodies, ensure pothole-free roads, improve traffic flow, and guarantee essential civic amenities like street lighting and drinking water supply ahead of the festive season.

Special Preparations for the Festive Season
Keeping the upcoming festivals—Navratri, Durga Puja, and Vijayadashami (Dussehra)—in mind, the state government has issued specific directives to urban local bodies. With large crowds and increased movement expected during the festive period, special emphasis has been placed on maintaining road cleanliness, ensuring functional street lighting, providing adequate drinking water, and facilitating smooth traffic management.

Division-Wise Field Inspections from September 20 to October 2
To ensure effective implementation of the campaign, a division-wise field inspection drive will be conducted across the state from September 20 to October 2, 2025. Senior officials of secretary and Special Secretary rank from the Urban Development Department and the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies have been appointed as nodal officers for this purpose. These officers will conduct thorough assessments of ongoing activities in their respective divisions during the inspection period.

Monitoring and Accountability Measures
The government has emphasized that the activities of urban local bodies will be directly monitored by the nodal officers. The inspections will focus on ensuring pothole-free roads, robust cleanliness systems, functional street lighting, and the availability of drinking water. Urban local bodies have also been directed to submit detailed reports of their activities during the campaign to the state government in a timely manner.

Evaluation of Departmental Schemes
In addition to the cleanliness drive, the progress of various ongoing schemes under the Urban Development Department will also be evaluated during the field inspections. Nodal officers will not only assess cleanliness and civic amenities but also review the progress of projects being implemented in urban local bodies.

The overarching goal of this campaign is to create a clean and healthy environment in the urban areas of Uttar Pradesh. The government believes that cleanliness is not just a responsibility but a collective effort. During the festive season, when cities witness large gatherings, providing a clean, safe, and convenient environment remains a top priority for the state administration.
