3.41 Lakh Caste Validity Certificates Distributed in the State Within Eight Months

Mumbai, Sept 2025 : Through the online portal developed by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Pune, the caste certificate verification process has been made completely online. Between January 2025 and August 2025, a total of 3,41,973 students in the state received caste validity certificates from the District Caste Certificate Verification Committees, informed BARTI Director General Sunil Ware.

To make this process more convenient and transparent, the government has introduced various facilities. Under the Maharashtra Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, De-Notified Tribes, Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Special Backward Category (Regulation of Issuance and Verification of Caste Certificates) Act, 2000 and Rules of 2012, applicants are required to submit their applications to the District Caste Certificate Verification Committees. The committees scrutinize the required documents and provide guidance if any discrepancies are found.

The entire process has been made online through the portal developed by BARTI, Pune. This includes facilities such as:

• Online submission of applications
• Application tracking
• Online rectification of errors
• Payment of service charges
• Receiving certificates through DigiLocker and e-mail
• Illustrated guidance
• 24×7 helpline services

BARTI’s Director General functions as the Chief Coordinator for the 36 District Caste Certificate Verification Committees in the state. These committees are responsible for verifying caste certificates of all communities except the Scheduled Tribes.
