Suryakumar Yadav Urges Team India to Shut Out Outside Noise Ahead of Pakistan Clash

Dubai, Sept 2025 : Ahead of India’s much-anticipated Super 4 clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav emphasized the importance of shutting out external distractions and focusing on the game. Undefeated in the group stage, India will meet Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday in what promises to be a high-voltage encounter.

India had already registered a convincing seven-wicket victory against Pakistan earlier in the tournament, chasing down a target of 128 in a one-sided contest. That match, however, ended in controversy when Suryakumar and his batting partner Shivam Dube walked off without shaking hands with the Pakistani players. Surya later dedicated the win to the valor of the Indian armed forces and expressed solidarity with victims of the April Pahalgam terror attack, underlining the emotional backdrop of the contest.

When asked about managing outside chatter that often surrounds high-profile India-Pakistan matches, Suryakumar explained his simple mantra: “Close your room, turn off your phone, and go to sleep.” He admitted that while it is nearly impossible to completely block out external noise, he has been very clear with his players about choosing what to focus on.

“Look, it’s easy to say but difficult to do. You meet friends, go out for dinner, and there are always people talking about the game. But ultimately, it’s up to you what you want to listen to and what you keep in your mind. I’ve told the boys it’s very important to shut out a lot of the outside noise if we want to do well in this tournament,” he said.

The Indian captain stressed that not all outside voices should be ignored entirely. “Someone can give you good advice that might help in the game. So I always tell the team—take what’s useful and leave the rest. Everyone right now is in a good space, and that’s important going forward.”

Reflecting on India’s close encounter with Oman, Suryakumar praised the opposition’s spirited effort. Oman came within 21 runs of India’s 189-run target, showing resilience against a world-class side. “They batted really well, played some good cricket. There was a little dew, but that’s no excuse. Credit to them for the way they fought,” he said.

The skipper also shared his observations about playing conditions in the UAE. “In Dubai, it was a little humid, but conditions improved in the second half. In Abu Dhabi, during the match against Oman, there wasn’t much dew at all. The conditions were the same in both innings, so there were no excuses,” he explained.

As India gears up for the crucial Super 4 stage, Suryakumar’s calm and composed approach has resonated with his teammates. His emphasis on mental clarity, shutting out distractions, and focusing on controllable factors highlights the team’s preparation strategy.

With a flawless record in the group stage and confidence running high, India’s clash with Pakistan is set to test not only skill and strategy but also the players’ ability to handle pressure off the field. For Suryakumar Yadav, the formula remains simple: filter the noise, stay grounded, and play fearless cricket.

Team Maverick.
