Deputy Chairman Dr. Neelam Gorhe Reviews Flood Relief Efforts in Pune

Pune : Following heavy rains on July 25, which led to flooding affecting riverside families in Pune, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe has been actively involved in overseeing relief efforts.

Dr. Gorhe conducted a review of the disaster relief plans at the Pune Municipal Corporation. Present at the meeting were Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosle, Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Patil, and other officials including Ganesh Sonune and Madhav Jagtap. Dr. Gorhe emphasized the need for urgent provision of essential services to flood-affected citizens, including sanitation, food, clean water, and uninterrupted electricity. She also highlighted the importance of supporting students by replacing lost or damaged educational materials and ensuring that schools are informed.

Dr. Gorhe instructed the Municipal Corporation to set up a permanent help desk in the affected areas and to mobilize adequate manpower for immediate relief work. She stressed the need for arranging clean water tankers and providing gumboots to cleaning staff. Additionally, she called for the assessment and compensation for damaged shops and infrastructure. In Lavasa, she requested a report from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on landslide damage and recommended advance notice to citizens before dam water discharge. Coordination among the water resources department, revenue officials, municipal corporation, and police was also urged.

Earlier, Dr. Gorhe visited Patil Estate to interact with affected residents and assess the damage. She noted significant destruction to riverside homes and urged for swift completion of damage assessments and the provision of necessary documents and daily essentials for women. Pune Municipal Corporation Disaster Management Officer Ganesh Sonune provided an update on the relief measures being implemented.
