All Metro Phases to Open for Passengers by End of 2026 – CM Fadnavis
Technical Inspection and Trial Run Completed for Metro Route-4 and 4A, Phase-1, from Gaimukh to Vijay Garden Station
Thane, Sept 2025 : Since Metro 4 and 4A corridors will be connected to Metro 11, which links Wadala to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the 58 km long corridor will become the country’s largest metro line and will prove important for Thane and Mumbai. All phases of this metro will be open for passengers by October 2026, assured Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The technical inspection and trial run of Priority Section Phase-1 of Metro Route 4 (Wadala–Kasarvadavali) and 4A (Kasarvadavali–Gaimukh) from Gaimukh Junction – Gaimukh village – Ghodbunder Road – Kasarvadavali – Vijay Garden was inaugurated at the hands of CM Devendra Fadnavis, during which he spoke.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaiak, MP Naresh Mhaske, MLA Niranjan Davkhare, former MLA Ravindra Phatak, MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Principal Secretary to Deputy CM Navin Sona, Konkan Divisional Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Thane Collector Shrikrishna Panchal, and a large number of citizens were present.
Speaking about Metro Route 4 and 4A, CM Fadnavis said that the total length of the Ghatkopar–Mulund–Gaimukh corridor is 35 km, with Metro 4 being 32 km and Metro 4A being 2.88 km. There are 32 stations in total, and the estimated project cost is ₹16,000 crore. For creating depots for Metro 4, 4A, 10, and 11, 45 hectares of land has been made available at Bhogaripada. The unique benefit of this metro is that it will connect eastern suburbs, western suburbs, Mumbai city, and Thane city. Later, this line will also be connected to Metro 11 (Wadala–Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus), making it the longest metro corridor in the country at 58 km. Once all lines are operational, more than 13 lakh daily passengers will travel by this metro. This will significantly reduce road traffic congestion. By the end of next year, efforts are being made to open all phases of this metro step by step for passengers, said CM Fadnavis.
This Project Will Play a Key Role in Resolving Thane’s Traffic Congestion – Deputy CM Eknath Shinde
Deputy CM and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde said that under the leadership of CM Devendra Fadnavis, approval was given to this metro work, and it is a matter of great joy that the project is being completed during his tenure. The 58 km elevated metro project is the first such project in India. This project will play a key role in resolving traffic congestion issues.
As part of the process, all technical systems were reviewed as per the requirements of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). In this section, the basic infrastructure – viaduct, track, and overhead equipment (OHE) – has been completed. During the inspection and initial trial run, data was collected for load calculation and software configuration, and all essential systems required for safe operations, including metro trains, were tested and integrated.
Features of Metro Train:
- BEML 6-coach train sets, the same as those running on Metro Routes 2A and 7.
- Modern Train Control and Management System.
- Passenger emergency communication mechanism.
- Automatic fire detection system.
- Obstacle detection device.
- Emergency evacuation doors.
- On-board public announcement and information system.
- Energy-saving regenerative braking system (about 30% savings).
By conducting technical inspection and trial runs on this priority section, MMRDA has taken an important step towards operationalizing Metro Route 4 and 4A for the citizens of Thane and Mumbai.
