Kolkata Metro Rail Smart Card gets cheaper, validity increased to 10 Years.

Sept 2025 : Kolkata Metro Rail’s Smart Cards are getting cheaper and going to be offered with more benefits like increased validity period of 10 years.

In order to popularise the Smart Card following attractive changes in business rules of Smart Cards have been made which will likely to be effective from 25.09.2025 onwards. During the current month, more than 50,000 Smart Cards have already been sold.

It is expected that more and more commuters would like to buy Metro Smart Cards after such attractive changes in business rules come into effect. These Smart Cards will make the Metro journey more comfortable for everyone as passengers would be able to avoid the rush at the booking counters specially during peak hours and festive time.

The changes in the Business Rules being made are given below: –

• The present refundable security deposit of Smart Card has been reduced to ₹50/- from ₹80/-.

• The minimum issue price of the Smart Card has been reduced to ₹100/- from ₹150/- (i.e. Security Deposit ₹50/- plus Ride value ₹52/- including Bonus ₹ 2/-).

• The validity of the Smart Cards will be for 10 years instead of the present one year.

• The validity of the existing valid Cards will be extended further up to ten years at the time of recharge.

• The validity of the newly issued Cards will be counted from the first swipe at AFC & PC gate onwards not from the first date of issue.

• 5% bonus on recharge value will continue.

Smart Cards will be issued both from the ASCRM machines and booking counters. These can also be recharged from ASCRM machines, online and also from booking offices.

Kolkata Metro Rail have urged the Commuters to buy Smart Cards and make their Metro journey comfortable. It is expected that the dependency of booking counters will be reduced substantially once the commuters start to use more and more Smart Cards and book tickets through ‘AAMAR KOLKATA METRO’ app and enjoy 5% rebate/ bonus on fare.

The regular commuters may retain the Cards for further use and the travellers / visitors who wish to travel in and around the city for short duration may take refund amount of the security deposit on completion of journey in Metro.
