Chhattisgarh Emerges as a National Leader in Complex Cardiac Treatments – Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai
Raipur, Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that Chhattisgarh has become a leading state in the country for performing complex heart treatments. Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal added that the state’s health infrastructure is increasingly becoming a symbol of modernity and trust.
In a landmark achievement, doctors at the Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI), affiliated with Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, successfully performed the sixth Beckmann Total Physiological Pacing case in the country and the first-ever by a government institution. This was also the first case of lead implantation in the right atrium (Beckmann bundle).
Doctors explained that the Beckmann Total Physiological Pacing procedure involves regulating the heartbeat entirely through the heart’s natural conduction system, ensuring long-term stable and safe heart rhythms. Until now, such a complex procedure had not been attempted even at top institutions like AIIMS Delhi or PGI Chandigarh.
The patient, a 68-year-old woman from Raipur, suffered from Sick Sinus Syndrome, a serious condition where the pacemaker cells of the heart are damaged, causing irregular rhythms. Standard ventricular or left bundle pacing could have increased risks of heart failure, so the team opted for this advanced method.
The procedure involved detailed electrophysiological mapping of the left bundle, followed by mapping of the Beckmann bundle in the right atrium, where the pacemaker lead was implanted. This ensured that both heart chambers could function through the natural electrical pathways, significantly reducing the risk of heart failure.
The medical team included Dr. Smit Srivastava (Head of Cardiology), Dr. S.K. Sharma, Dr. Kunal Ostwal, Dr. Anurag Kujur, and Dr. Ved Prakash. The treatment was carried out under the Chief Minister’s Special Health Assistance Scheme, with crucial support from medico-social worker Khogendra Sahu.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the doctors, stating that this achievement highlights the progress and high standards of Chhattisgarh’s public healthcare system. He emphasized that the state’s largest government hospital is now performing world-class complex procedures, giving new hope to patients.
Health Minister Jaiswal praised the accomplishment as a milestone proving the strength of the state’s medical infrastructure. He noted that patients in Chhattisgarh will no longer need to depend on metropolitan hospitals for advanced cardiac care. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing free, high-quality treatment to every citizen under schemes like the Chief Minister’s Special Health Assistance Programme.
Notably, in 2022–23, ACI ranked fifth in India for the highest number of electrophysiology treatments.
