CM Bhupendra Patel chairs State Cabinet meeting and approves creation of 17 new talukas in the state

Gandhinagar, Sept 2025: Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel chaired a State Cabinet meeting and made a key public welfare decision aiming to accelerate the state’s development. Responding positively to the representations of citizens, communities, and office bearers, the State Cabinet unanimously approved the proposal to create a new Vav-Tharad district from Banaskantha, as well as the formation of 17 new talukas from 21 existing talukas of the state.

Explaining the background of this important decision of the Cabinet, State Government Spokesperson Minister Shri Rushikesh Patel stated that the present State Government, under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, has been accelerating the idea of administrative simplification given by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The spokesperson minister said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the government has approved the creation of 17 new talukas with a public-oriented approach to administrative decentralization. This will make it more convenient for people to reach district and taluka offices, while the proximity of new taluka headquarters will ensure better social, economic, health, and educational facilities. It will also save time, energy, and money for those in remote villages who previously had to travel long distances to reach taluka headquarters. He added that the Cabinet has also approved the formation of Vav-Tharad district, with Tharad as the headquarters, by including six talukas of the present Banaskantha district – Vav, Tharad, Suigam, Bhabhar, Diyodar, and Lakhni.

Giving details about the creation of new talukas, the spokesperson minister said that when Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had envisioned ATVT – Apno Taluko Vibrant Taluko – to strengthen taluka units in development and administration. After the formation of 23 new talukas in 2013, the government led by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has now, for the first time, decided to create the largest number of 17 new talukas.

The spokesperson minister said that the Chief Minister had announced the Mukhyamantri Gramothhan Yojana on the last Independence Day, and with this scheme now extending to the newly formed taluka headquarters, they too will develop on urban lines. He added that under the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, the creation of new districts and talukas will play a vital role in achieving Viksit Gujarat @ 2047, ensuring that emerging talukas steadily transform into developed ones. With the addition of 17 new talukas, the number of developing talukas will rise by 10, and these will also receive the grants allocated for developing talukas.

Along with the new administrative framework for these districts and talukas, there will be an increase in grants for various developmental works. The spokesperson minister further noted that this decision will strengthen Gujarat’s talukas, already recognized as a role model and growth engine of the nation’s progress, turning them into models of development in their own right. He also informed that an official notification regarding the creation of the new talukas will be issued soon.New Taluka of GujaratSource: Information Department, Gujarat
