Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Meets Prime Minister Modi, Seeks Central Aid for Flood-Affected Maharashtra; Submits Memorandum

New Delhi, Sept 2025 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today and briefed him on the heavy rains, floods, and the resulting losses faced by farmers in the state. He also submitted a memorandum seeking substantial assistance from the central government. The Prime Minister assured that the Centre will firmly stand by the farmers of Maharashtra in this crisis.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also held detailed discussions with the Prime Minister on several key issues, including the state’s defence corridors, concessions for steel production in Gadchiroli, transfer of land at Dahisar belonging to the Airports Authority of India, and measures being undertaken by the Maharashtra government to strengthen ‘Ease of Doing Business’.

Gadchiroli Steel City

CM Fadnavis highlighted that Gadchiroli, a district with immense potential for steel production, is attracting large-scale investments. He urged the Prime Minister to grant area limit concessions to Maharashtra State Mining Corporation. He emphasized that Gadchiroli’s production would focus on green steel, which could be available at prices even lower than China’s. Investments worth over ₹1 lakh crore have already been made in the district. With Gadchiroli being freed from Naxal influence, vast opportunities for development are opening up.

Three Defence Corridors

The Chief Minister underlined Maharashtra’s strong role in defence and aerospace, noting that the state houses 10 ordnance factories and accounts for 30% of the country’s weapons and ammunition production. He presented a detailed proposal for three defence corridors:

  1. Pune–Ahmednagar–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar,
  2. Amravati–Wardha–Nagpur–Savner,
  3. Nashik–Dhule.

These corridors, he said, would bring massive investments and generate significant employment. Maharashtra has already signed MoUs worth ₹60,000 crore in this regard, and CM Fadnavis requested the Prime Minister’s approval for the project.

Transfer of Land at Dahisar

The CM also raised the issue of 58 acres of land in Dahisar (East), currently owned by the Airports Authority of India. The land was initially earmarked for an MMRDA metro car shed, but plans were dropped due to design changes. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now sought the land, which has been restricted due to the presence of an HF receiving station, stalling overall development in the area. CM Fadnavis requested that the land be transferred to BMC so that it can be used for public benefit and development, resolving issues related to construction height restrictions.

Upcoming PM Visit to Maharashtra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mumbai on October 8 and 9 for the Fintech Conference, during which he will also inaugurate the Navi Mumbai Airport and the Metro-3 project.
