CM Rekha Gupta lays the foundation stone of the long-awaited Foot Over Bridge for soldiers in Delhi Cantonment

Bridge to be ready in just 180 days: PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh

New Delhi, Sept 2025 : As part of the Seva Pakhwada being observed to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today laid the foundation stone for a Foot Over Bridge at the Rajputana Rifles Regimental Centre, Delhi Cantonment, near Ring Road. The bridge, a long-standing demand of the soldiers posted there, will be built to make their daily movement safe and convenient.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that for years, soldiers had to struggle to cross the road using a narrow underpass, which becomes waterlogged during the rainy season. “This new Foot Over Bridge will put an end to those problems. For us, the safety and comfort of our soldiers is the top priority,” she said, adding that the project will be completed without any delay or shortage of funds.
The event was attended by MP Ms Bansuri Swaraj, Delhi PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar (AVSM, VSM), along with other dignitaries.

Soldiers to get a safe and easy passage

The Chief Minister said the new bridge will finally give soldiers a safe and smooth way to cross, ending the daily difficulties they face while commuting and training. She added that the Delhi Government, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the spirit of Seva Pakhwada, is committed to creating better facilities not just for citizens but also for soldiers. She assured that problems related to army camps and cantonments will always be addressed on a priority. “The Prime Minister celebrates Diwali with soldiers every year, a gesture that reminds us that our soldiers are an inseparable part of our national family,” she said.

Neglected by previous governments

PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh said that soldiers had been asking for a Foot Over Bridge for almost 30 years, but no government took action. “Earlier governments spent crores on publicity but didn’t allocate even a rupee for this vital bridge. As soon as our government took up the issue, we approved the funds, floated the tender, and began work without delay. By March next year, the bridge will be ready,” he said. He added that the bridge will not just be made of concrete and steel, but will also stand as a symbol of respect and gratitude to the brave soldiers who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation.

Project details

The Rajputana Rifles Centre is spread across both sides of Ring Road, with training grounds located separately from the main campus. Until now, soldiers have had to take unsafe routes either through the waterlogged underpass or by making a long detour via the Dhaula Kuan subway.

The new Foot Over Bridge will be completed in just 180 days. Built with a modern and secure design, it will save time, ensure safety, and make daily movement smoother for soldiers.
