Bastar Dussehra: Underground Wiring Work Accelerates on Chariot Procession Path, Project Cost ₹5.19 Crore

Raipur, Sept 2025 : The world-famous Bastar Dussehra is renowned for its unique traditions and grand 75-day-long celebrations. This year, an important step has been taken to make the festival safer and more organized. Underground wiring work along the chariot procession route is progressing rapidly. The project, costing around ₹5.19 crore, fulfills a long-pending demand of the Dussehra Committee and was approved through the initiative of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

Years-Old Demand of the Committee

For years, the Bastar Dussehra Committee had been demanding the removal of overhead power lines along the procession route and their replacement with underground wiring. Overhead cables often caused issues such as wire breakage, short circuits, and disruptions during rains. These problems not only affected the smooth movement of the chariot but also posed serious risks to devotees’ safety. The committee had repeatedly urged the administration to take concrete measures.

Chief Minister’s Priority

Recognizing the cultural and religious importance of Bastar Dussehra, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai prioritized the proposal. Acting on his instructions, the project was sanctioned and work began promptly. Mr. Sai said this initiative would not only ensure the safety of the festival but also strengthen Bastar’s infrastructure and tourism. Local residents and the Dussehra Committee have welcomed the decision.

Work Completed on “Phool Rath” Route

According to the electricity department, underground wiring on the Phool Rath (Flower Chariot) procession route has been completed. Work is now progressing quickly on the main chariot path. Once finished, all obstacles caused by overhead wires will be completely eliminated, ensuring smooth and safe chariot processions.

Special Arrangements for the Vijay Rath Procession

The biggest attraction of Bastar Dussehra is the Vijay Rath procession, which draws thousands of devotees. Considering its significance, the power company has begun special preparations. All electric poles, wires, and other potential obstacles along the route are being thoroughly inspected. Officials confirmed that teams are working day and night to complete the project within the set timeline.

Enhancing Both Safety and City Aesthetics

This project goes beyond ensuring safety; it will also enhance the city’s visual appeal. The absence of overhead wires and poles will make the procession route and surrounding areas more attractive and organized. Additionally, electricity supply will become more stable. Members of the Dussehra Committee said that this initiative by Chief Minister Sai is a valuable gift to the people and will elevate the grandeur of the festival to new heights.
