This year’s sugarcane crushing season will begin from November 1 – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Decision to deduct ₹10 per ton for Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and ₹5 per ton for flood-affected aid

Mumbai, Sept 2025 : Heavy rains have damaged crops in most parts of the state. In some areas, flood conditions still persist. Therefore, the decision to start the 2025–26 sugarcane crushing season in the state from November 1, 2025, was taken at the meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. On this occasion, it was also decided to deduct ₹10 per ton for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and ₹5 per ton for assistance to flood-affected people.

Today at Mantralaya, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee was organized to review the 2024–25 sugarcane crushing season and to determine the policy for the new crushing season of 2025–26. Present at this meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Minister of Water Resources (Vidarbha, Tapi and Konkan Development Corporation) Girish Mahajan, Minister of Water Resources (Godavari and Krishna Valley Development Corporation) Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil, Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharane, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, Principal Secretary of Cooperation Department Praveen Darade, Commissioner of Cooperation Deepak Taware, and representatives of the Sugar Federation.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that this year for the sugarcane to be crushed, considering a basic recovery of 10.25 percent, a Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of ₹3,550 per metric ton will be given. In the last season, about 200 sugar factories undertook crushing, including 99 cooperative and 101 private factories. Farmers were paid FRP of ₹31,301 crore.

The state has paid 99.06 percent of the FRP. Out of these, the number of factories that paid 100 percent FRP is 148. In the co-generation projects, in 2024–25 the factories exported 298 crore units of electricity, and income received by factories from power export was ₹1,979 crore. Factories also received an income of ₹6,378 crore from ethanol sales, Chief Minister Fadnavis said.

In the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding mechanization for sugarcane harvesting and co-generation. On this occasion, Commissioner of Cooperation Deepak Taware made a presentation. Before the meeting, on the occasion of International Year of Cooperatives announced by the Central Government, a film showcasing the journey of the cooperative sector in the state was presented.
