CM Directs Acceleration of Sports University in Haldwani and Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat
Haldwani, Oct, 2025: The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has instructed officials to accelerate the implementation of the proposed Sports University in Haldwani and the Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat. He also directed the Sports & Youth Welfare Department to provide necessary support to youths preparing for Agniveer recruitment.
During a review meeting of the Sports Department at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday, the CM emphasized strengthening sports infrastructure across the state and encouraging greater youth participation in sports. He stressed that special attention should be given to the regular maintenance and effective utilization of sports infrastructure developed for the 38th National Games to ensure continuous growth of sports activities in Uttarakhand.
The CM instructed that regular sports competitions be organized across the state to maximize the use of existing facilities. Accelerating the implementation of the Haldwani Sports University and the Lohaghat Women’s Sports College will provide state athletes with advanced training facilities, helping Uttarakhand establish a stronger identity in the sports arena.
To boost enthusiasm and participation among youth, the CM directed that large-scale competitions be organized, ranging from the level of Nyaya Panchayats to MLA, MP, and Chief Minister’s Championship Trophy tournaments. He also emphasized that the Sports & Youth Welfare Department extend full support to youths preparing for Agniveer recruitment.
Looking ahead to the 39th National Games, the CM stressed that state athletes should be provided with better training and resources. He instructed that top-performing athletes receive timely rewards, scholarships, and insurance benefits. He also urged that private sector and corporate participation in developing sports infrastructure be encouraged to expand access to facilities for the public.
The CM further directed the appointment of experienced coaches to provide quality training to athletes and emphasized speeding up the establishment of various sports academies in the state. He reiterated that the government’s commitment is to promote a strong sports culture and channelize youth energy in a positive direction.
The review meeting was attended by Sports Minister Rekha Arya, Vice-Chairman of the Uttarakhand State Level Sports Council Hemraj Bisht, Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Special Chief Secretary (Sports) Amit Sinha, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Director of Sports Ashish Chauhan, and other senior officials of the Sports Department.
