PM Modi Welcomes Israel-Hamas Agreement on First Phase of Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

New Delhi, Oct 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, describing it as a positive step toward lasting peace in the Middle East.

In a post on his official X handle, Prime Minister Modi said,

“We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu. We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks came a day after President Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of his Gaza peace plan, calling it a “historic and unprecedented” development aimed at ending the two-year-long conflict.

According to Trump, under the first phase, Hamas will release all hostages, while Israel will withdraw its troops to an agreed-upon line, as part of confidence-building measures leading toward a durable ceasefire.

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed-upon line as the first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace,” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

He thanked mediators Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their efforts in brokering the deal, and ended his statement with a biblical quotation: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

Reports said that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed President Trump during a meeting that negotiators in Egypt were close to finalizing the deal. Trump later told reporters he might travel to the Middle East “as early as Saturday” to follow up on the agreement’s implementation.

The breakthrough comes exactly two years and one day after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel that triggered the war. About 1,250 Israelis were killed and 250 taken hostage in that assault. In response, Israel launched a massive counter-offensive in Gaza, which, according to Gaza health authorities, has killed more than 67,000 people, mostly civilians, and left the territory on the brink of famine.
