Water Resources Minister Inspects Chaparwara Dam, Orders Strengthening Report to Ensure Irrigation up to Tail End

Jaipur, Oct 2025 — Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat visited Dudu on Thursday and inspected the Chaparwara Dam. He directed officials to ensure that repair works of the canals connected to the dam are completed promptly and with high quality. He also instructed that canal operations be carried out on schedule, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring to guarantee timely water supply to farmers.

Minister Rawat stated that the department is committed to ensuring water reaches farmers through canals up to the last tail end for irrigation during the upcoming Rabi season (Irrigation Year 2025–26). Senior departmental officials are continuously monitoring the strengthening work of the dam and canals. He also interacted directly with public representatives and local residents to review development works in the area.

The Minister informed that irrigation management and anicut repair works worth ₹40 crore are underway in the Dudu region, which will further strengthen the irrigation network. He instructed officials to conduct a detailed survey and prepare a comprehensive report for the strengthening of the Chaparwara Dam. He added that due to good rainfall this monsoon, dams across the state have overflowed, ensuring adequate water availability for irrigation.

The Executive Engineer briefed the Minister on the dam’s catchment and command area. He informed that Chaparwara is a large dam with a total storage capacity of 17 feet (1,236 MCFT) and a command area of 11,741 hectares. The dam has been overflowing for the last two consecutive years. Its four main canals provide irrigation to about 60,000 bighas of farmland across 52 villages in the tehsils of Dudu, Mojmabad, Phagi, and Malpura.

Superintending Engineer Rameshankar Sharma, Executive Engineer Anil Thalod, Assistant Engineer Shankar Lal Roz, along with local public representatives and other officials, were present during the inspection.
