Ayushman Bharat Scheme Gives New Life to Divyang Shankar

Raipur, Oct 2025 : Injured in Road Accident While Returning Home; Treated Free Under Ayushman Bharat

32-year-old Shankar Gupta, who is physically disabled, met with an accident while returning home one day. In the mishap, Shankar suffered fractures in four places in his leg, including the patella (knee cap), femur, and long bones. He was immediately taken to the district hospital, where doctors stated that his condition was serious and surgery was the only solution. Thanks to the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Shankar received free treatment, giving him a new lease on life.

Shankar, a resident of Chaki village in Ramchandrapur block, was estimated to require treatment costing around ₹80,000. His family, with limited resources, was uncertain about how they could manage such a large expense. In this situation, the Ayushman Bharat scheme proved to be a lifeline. Under the scheme, all his treatment was provided free of cost, including surgery, CT scans, and medicines. The surgery was successful, and Shankar’s health is gradually improving. Under medical supervision, he is now attempting to stand and walk again.

After completing his treatment, Shankar emotionally said,
“I have been physically disabled all my life, and after the accident, I feared I might never walk again. But the Ayushman scheme has been a blessing for me. Without it, my treatment would not have been possible. This government initiative has not only treated me but also given me the courage to live again.”

Shankar Gupta’s story highlights that when government schemes reach the right beneficiaries, they can truly transform lives.
