PM Janman Brings Government Welfare Benefits to the Hill Korwa Tribe
Development Reaches the Remote Hills of Hethsemar through All-Weather Road Connectivity
Raipur, Oct 2025: The Hill Korwa community of Hethsemar, belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) and often referred to as the “adopted children of the President,” are known for their unique culture and simple lifestyle. Traditionally living in scattered settlements on steep hilltops, this isolation long posed challenges in delivering government welfare schemes to them.
To ensure that these tribal communities are included in the national development process, the government launched the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM Janman) — an initiative championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. Under this mission, the criteria for connecting habitations to main roads were relaxed so that even villages with a population of just 100 could be linked to major routes.
Through this initiative, the Hill Korwa village of Hethsemar in Bagicha block, Jashpur district, was connected to the Sanna-Rauni main road. A 5 km all-weather road was constructed at a cost of ₹3.67 crore, overcoming steep terrain, rocky patches, and uneven plateaus. The completion of this project has transformed accessibility and brought development to this long-isolated community.
With the new road, education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities have become easily accessible for the Hill Korwas. Earlier, during the monsoon, villagers had to navigate slippery trails, treacherous hills, venomous wildlife, and streams to reach other settlements. Now, children and villagers can travel safely for schooling and medical care, and farmers can easily transport their produce and access markets.
The road has also opened doors for employment, trade, and social interaction. People can now attend cultural and religious gatherings, marriages, and local fairs more conveniently. Importantly, emergency medical vehicles can now reach Hethsemar swiftly, providing timely treatment in cases of snake bites, accidents, and maternal health emergencies.
The PM Janman initiative has truly brought Hethsemar’s Hill Korwas into the mainstream of development — paving the way for social upliftment, better livelihoods, and a brighter future.
