For the First Time Since Independence, Diwali Celebrated at Kartavya Path
Under CM Rekha Gupta’s Leadership, Millions of Diyas Illuminated the Capital
A Unique Confluence of Faith and Modernity at Kartavya Path: CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi, Oct 2025 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, a new chapter in history was written in the national capital, Delhi. For the first time, Kartavya Path witnessed the grand celebration of Deepotsav, similar to the one held in Ayodhya, the sacred city of Lord Ram. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that today’s Deepotsav is not merely a festival of lamps but the herald of a new awakening. Delhi is writing a new story, one where faith and modernity merge beautifully. The capital has shown that it is no longer just the seat of governance, but also the heartbeat of India’s cultural consciousness. The spectacular drone show depicting the life of Lord Ram and the ocean of illuminated lamps symbolised the city’s harmonious progress, rooted in Sanatan tradition and the cultural essence of the nation. For the first time since Independence, Diwali was celebrated collectively at Kartavya Path.

The event saw the participation of all ministers of the Cabinet and senior officials, along with thousands of citizens of Delhi. The grand Deepotsav featured a magnificent drone show, cultural performances, and a Ramayana-themed light display, which left the audience mesmerised. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta too appeared deeply moved and spiritually inspired by the devotion to Lord Ram. She remarked that after many years, the heart of Delhi glowed with such radiance. This was not merely a festival of lights, she said, but a symbol of Delhi’s new energy, hope, and direction. This Diwali has reached every section of society.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that with the support of the Central Government, every section of Delhi’s population is benefiting today. She said, “This Diwali, smiles grace the faces of children, there are savings in women’s households, new opportunities for youth, health assurance for the elderly, and pride for every citizen in their city.” The Chief Minister added, “Our resolve is to establish Ram Rajya in Delhi, with the blessings of Lord Ram, a state where every citizen enjoys equal opportunity, safety, and respect. The Delhi Government is truly a people’s government, and we are their servants.”
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Minister also said that the most distinctive feature of this Deepotsav was the presentation of Lord Ram’s life story in the sky through a drone show. Thousands of drones recreated the divine saga of the Ramayana using modern technology. This depiction of the ideals of Maryada Purushottam Lord Ram not only stirred the devotion of spectators but also conveyed a message that India’s traditions can progress in harmony with modernity.
The Chief Minister added that Diwali is a special festival symbolising the triumph of light over darkness, truth over falsehood, and righteousness over evil. In the Treta Yuga, when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, the people of Ayodhya lit lamps to welcome him, a tradition that has since come to represent the victory of light. The festival is not merely religious but also a celebration of social and cultural unity. It connects families, communities, and the nation, inspiring all to dispel darkness and light the lamps of hope and harmony.
She said that this celebration organised by the Delhi Government is truly special. Until now, such grand Deepotsav celebrations were witnessed only in Ayodhya, but for the first time, Delhi too has brought that glorious tradition to life in its own heart. The Chief Minister said, “Our government is committed to ensuring that Delhi is not only the administrative capital but also reflects the soul of India culturally. This Diwali celebration will bestow a new spiritual and cultural identity upon Delhi.”
