Governor Graces Football Exhibition Match Under Project Bramhastra to Raise Awareness Against Narcoterrorism

Aizawl, Oct 2025: In a concerted effort to protect youth from the dangers of narcotics and substance abuse, the WATO Trust organised a ‘Football Exhibition Match – Awareness Campaign Against Narcoterrorism” under its flagship initiative, Project Bramhastra, at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Mualpui, Aizawl, on Saturday evening. Highlighting Mizoram’s pivotal role as the birthplace and epicentre of Project Bramhastra, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh emphasised the urgent need for collective action to combat drug trafficking and addiction, particularly given the state’s proximity to international borders. He commended the registration of 104 basketball teams in the campaign as a remarkable achievement and urged young people to embrace sports rather than destructive habits, choosing the playing field over the streets. The Governor praised those actively engaged in Project Bramhastra, noting that the initiative seeks to nurture physically healthy, mentally sharp and spiritually resilient individuals through sport. He called on athletes, students, celebrities, parents and teachers to unite in the fight against drug abuse, making Mizoram the shining example of resilience, discipline and strength to the world.

The event also celebrated the achievements of the Project Bramhastra 3×3 Basketball Tournament held on October 17, 2025, with awards and scholarships presented to participants. Dr. Yogita Karache, Founder and President of WATO Trust and Brig Puspendar Sorayan, DIG, HQ 23 Sector AR, delivered speeches, reaffirming their commitment to combating drug abuse. The evening’s football exhibition match featured prominent social media influencers and local personalities, showcasing sports as not only a source of entertainment but also a powerful tool in the fight against narcoterrorism. Miss Vanlalnuntluangi, Runners-up of Miss Grand India 2025, led a pledge against drug abuse, while Miss Evelyn Zachhingpuii, Miss Universe Mizoram 2025, proposed vote of thanks and concluded the event.

The WATO Trust continues its mission to safeguard Mizoram’s youth from the growing menace of drug abuse through Project Bramhastra. By promoting sports as a vital means of discipline, mental and physical well-being, and resistance to addiction, the initiative seeks to empower communities. Mizoram has been chosen as the starting point for this critical endeavor, marking it as a key hub in the fight against narcoterrorism.
