Funds to be provided for memorial of Lokshahir Padma Shri Krishnarao Sable — Deputy CM Ajit Pawar urges creation of a monument that makes Maharashtra proud
Satara, Oct 2025 : Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that funds will be provided for the construction of a memorial dedicated to Lokshahir Padma Shri Krishnarao Sable at his birthplace, Pasarni, recognizing his invaluable contribution to society and the Indian freedom struggle. Pawar said the memorial should be one that befits Sable’s legacy and makes Maharashtra proud.
He was speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the memorial at Pasarni, Wai taluka. The event was attended by Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Makarand Patil, MP Nitin Patil, Radhabai Sable, Yashomati Shinde, Udaysingh Patil-Undalkar, Harish Patne, Vinod Kulkarni, Rajaram Nikam, Sanjay Sable, Mahant Sundargiri, and a large gathering of villagers and dignitaries.
Deputy CM Pawar highlighted that Shahir Krishnarao Sable had played a pivotal role in public awakening through his ballads (powadas) during India’s Freedom Struggle, the Goa Liberation Movement, the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, and the Hyderabad Liberation Struggle. From a young age, he inherited a love for music from his father and was influenced by great personalities such as Sane Guruji and Sant Gadge Baba. Sable also took the initiative to enable temple entry for the untouchables and promoted social equality. Pawar urged efforts to share Sable’s thoughts and ideals with future generations.
Expressing his affection for Satara district, Pawar said he has consistently provided generous funds for its development. He added that the state government has undertaken conservation work of Maharashtra’s forts, including the development and beautification of Mahuli Ghats and the preservation of Ajinkyatara Fort in Satara.
He also mentioned that the memorial of poet B.S. Mardhekar at Mardhe has been completed and will soon be inaugurated. Additionally, the upcoming All India Literature Conference to be held in Satara will receive full government support, Pawar assured.
Minister Makarand Patil said that Padma Shri Lokshahir Krishnarao Sable’s contribution to the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement and social awakening cannot be forgotten. Through his art of shahiri (folk balladry), Sable played a significant role in educating and inspiring society.
He noted that eminent personalities recognized and praised Sable’s work, and he was honoured with the Padma Shri Award by the President of India. Patil stated that an estimated ₹30 crore will be required for the memorial at Pasarni and assured that the necessary funds will be made available to construct a memorial befitting Sable’s name and legacy.
